Baltic Amber Coast. Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure.

The proposal for a grant towards the project: “Baltic Amber Coast Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure” was made in 2010 as part of the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Lithuania-Poland-Russia 2007-2013. The Cross-border Cooperation Programme Lituania-Poland-Russia 2007-2013 is co-financed by funds from the European Union.

The Gmina of Sztutowo is responsible for the overall execution of the project, which involves, among others, co-operating with the external consultant who manages the project and also arranging for the audit to be carried out by an external specialist. Moreover, the gmina implements the project of modernisation and development of the marina on the Wisla Krolewiecka river in Sztutowo. The gmina of the Town of Krynica Morska, having thorough experience in preparing plans of marketing development of the Baltic ports, was entrusted with organising the inaugurating conference. The gmina also carries out the modernisation of the yacht marina in Krynica Morska.
The gmina of the Town of Ustka organised project workshops and regatta accompanied by an outdoor event. The gmina of Stegna organised the project workshops. Its representatives of take part in all meetings, workshops and conferences related to the project. Yantarny built a seaside promenade and organised workshops for the project partners. There are still a few events to be held – further workshops in Yantarny, a regatta and a conference to end the project.
All partners, through their representatives taking part in the project activities, joined their forces to work on the complex tourism product – “Baltic Amber Coast”.

Activities during the period of project implementation:

Workshop: „Programme of infrastructure and tourism product development” – part I

On 25-27 November 2012 in Jantar (Gmina of Stegna) a workshop was held concerning the framework of the „Programme of infrastructure and tourism product development” – part I. The strategy of the programme is to create a common tourism product in the cross-border cooperation area of five partners. The overall objective of the programme is to help to build a positive image of the cross-border region (Sztutowo, Stegna, Krynica Morska, Ustka and Yantarny), which will attract more tourists to the area. The event was attended by 18 people, including representatives of the lead partner and other partners in the project.

The inaugural conference in Krynica Morska

On 28-29 November 2012 a conference inaugurating the project was held in Krynica Morska. The title of the conference was: “Baltic Amber Coast Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure”.

On the first day all the partners of the project were introduced: Sztutowo (Leader), Stegna, Ustka and Yantarny (Kaliningrad Oblast of Russian Federation). Further to this, the main objectives and targets of the project on both the Polish and Russian sides were presented.
On the second day a presentation was made of the practice and experience in the realisation of the Pomeranian Voivodeship projects, i.e. Zulawy Loop Project (discussed by Development of Waterways Office Authority in Pomeranian Voivodeship) and Marriage Project (discussed by representative of Gdansk University of Technology). Furthermore, the participants of the conference were informed about the results from the workshop that took place on the 25-27 November 2012 in Yantar.

The event was attended by about 80 people.

Workshops: „Programme of infrastructure and tourism product development” – part II

On 15-17 May 2012 the second workshop concerning the framework of „Programme of infrastructure and tourism product development” was held in Ustka. The overall objective of the programme is to create and implement tourism products, which will help potential tourists to have access to vide variety of recreational and leisure activities in the five locations (Sztutowo, Krynica Morska. Stegna, Ustka, Yantarny). It will attract more tourists and increase tourism within the area of the participating regions. The complex tourism product (information about accommodation, services, events, places of interest and attractions) will be contained in brochures, flyers and on the project Web site.

The event was attended by 18 people, amongst whom were representatives of the leader partner and partners of the project.

First Amber Sailing Regatta in Ustka

On Saturday, 29 June 2013 within Ustka Port, the Amber Sailing Regatta in the „Optimist” class (with junior sailors up to 15 years old) took place. The event was organised by the Town Council of Ustka and held within the EU project „Baltic Amber Coast Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure”, co-financed from the funds of Cross-border Cooperation Programme Lithuania-Poland-Russia 2007-2013, in which Ustka Municipality, Sztutowo Commune, Stegna Commune, Krynica Morska Municipality and Yantarny Municipality from Kaliningrad Oblast all took part. Yacht-Club „Opty” Ustka also helped with the organization of the regatta.

Clubs from Leba, Kolobrzeg, Koszalin and Szczecinek were invited to take part in the regatta. 52 young sailors participated in the regatta in two groups: A (older) and B (younger). The regatta started after 11:00. Tourists, local residents and fans could watch the forty yachts from the pier of Ustka Port. Favourable weather conditions made it possible to complete four races. Young sailors spent five hours at sea. At the same time, in the regatta village (at western port) tourists and citizens could listen to sea shanty songs performed by Piotr Wypychowski and try prepared refreshments.

Amber Regatta not only provided an opportunity for young sailors to compete, but also for both, yacht fans and partners of the project Baltic Amber Coast to meet.

 Workshop: „Programme of infrastructure and tourism product development” – part III

On 20-21 October 2013 within the programme „Baltic Amber Coast Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure” co-financed within the Lithuania-Poland-Russia EISP Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 the third workshop was held in Russia. During the workshop, the previous measures to create new tourism products taken by all partners of the project (Sztutowo, Stegna, Krynica Morska, Ustka, Yantarny) were continued. There is still one workshop on the territory of Russian partner remaining to be held in order to develop a comprehensive strategy of the tourism product.

Modernisation and development of pier in Sztutowo

Sztutowo Commune, being the leader of the project Baltic Amber Coast Development of crossborder area through building up and modernization of tourism infrastructure co-financed within the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Lithuania-Poland-Russia 2007-2013 will modernise and develop the pier.

Modernisation started on April 2013 and undertook following activities: pier dismantling, new slipway, dredging work, plumbing and storm water sewerage, bank protection, stakes pierced for swimming pier, pier installation, lighting system, distribution boxes and valves, Nelton network, pedestrian and road network.

Modernisation will help to strengthen potential of Sztutowo Commune, which fits the general aim of the project.

Final acceptance of the investment – 6th of March 2014

Within the gained savings during the tender, Sztutowo together with other partners of the Project requested an extension of the modernisation works. On March 2014, the additional agreement for the final grant amount was signed, which will allow the additional range of actions to be carried out.

Within the project extension, the old pier on the Wisla Krolewiecka river will be renovated.

Modernisation and development of land part of yacht port in Krynica Morska

At the end of March this year building work on the modernised yacht port in Krynica Morska came to an end. The following were built: main promenade, main square (where open air events will be held during summer time), pavement and parking zone, public toilets, building of tourist information.

From the amount saved during the tender, Krynica Morska, together with other partners of the Project, requested an extension of the modernisation works in the yacht port. On March 2014, the additional agreement for the final grant was signed, which allowed the additional range of actions to be carried out.

Within the scope of the project extension, the following actions will be carried out: waste shed, tourist information pavilion on the campsite, waiting room on the bus station, benches and waste bins on the territory of developed part of yacht port.
